Sisältö

This course is an introductory course in speaking, understanding, reading and writing Chinese characters. Students are expected to achieve control of the pronunciation system, to gain the ability to communicate in the Chinese language in daily activities and also to be able to read and write Chinese characters. The goals are reached through classroom drill and recitation, discussion of grammatical patterns, conversation practice and performing skits. Students will also get to know Chinese culture and customs.

Teaching language: both English and Chinese are used.

Course Execution
Course sessions 60 hours + consistent preparation for course sessions and independent work 83 hours. A total of 135 hours of student work.

Learning outcomes
By the end of the course students will have been able to:
- demonstrate the ability to achieve control of the pronunciation system (especially 4 tones)
- demonstrate the ability to use basic grammar and basic sentence patterns
- demonstrate the ability to comprehend aurally
- demonstrate the ability to participate in daily conversations.

Mode of Completion
Regular and active participation in the course sessions, completion of course tasks and successful completion of the exam.

Grading scale:1-5 / Fail
